    A Night at Niblo's Garden

    7:00 pmGreen-Wood Cemetery (500 25th Street, Brooklyn NY)

This popular event is back for 2014 and better than ever! Imagine an outdoor pleasure dome, strung with lights, adorned with fountains and featuring the top musicians, dancers and entertainers of the time. That was the scene at Niblo’s Garden – the premier entertainment house of the 19th century. Niblo himself had a habit of turning his Green-Wood mausoleum – built years before his death – into a pleasure garden of its own, with friends, picnics and goldfish-stocked ponds.

Join author, historian, and Niblo expert Ben Feldman to bring the glory of Niblo’s Garden to Green-Wood! Surrounding Crescent Water in front of the Niblo mausoleum, we offer an evening of dinner, drinks and showmanship. Bring a blanket, snacks and some wine, and you’ll be dazzled by fire jugglers, singers, even famed knife thrower Throwdini! – all under paper lanterns and a starry sky.

DOC NYC: As You Pass By - Premiere

    9:30 pmIFC Center (323 6th Ave and w3th st.)

WORLD PREMIERE. The roads we erect and the cars we drive maximize our comfort and efficiency, but at what cost? As You Pass By commences an exploration of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, an infamous highway in New York City that slices through the two named boroughs. We pause in Woodside, Queens to observe one of the many spaces that have been sacrificed in order to create and maintain the utopian image of New York City on the opposite side of the East River. What we see is the beautiful way in which one New York citizen activates a seemingly derelict stretch of land.

MILWAUKEE UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL: Enduring Ornament

    8:00 pmMilwaukee, WI

Sourced from five found 16mm filmstrips once used in coin-operated peepshow booths on New York’s formerly seedy 42nd street, Enduring Ornament is a film that confronts the cinematic history of idealized patriarchal desire at its fundamental existence as celluloid. Making use of a salvaged industrial contact printer and chemical alterations applied directly to the subsequent photochemical prints, we have transformed these images from a privatized male experience into a primordial celebration of bodily spectacle. Threaded throughout the film is the exuberant compound word poetry of Baroness Elsa von Freytag Loringhoven, giving voice to an immediate and transgressive consciousness.
